Metal and Ceramic Sculpture & Jewelry

SUSAN MOLLET
Clay, metals, and mixed media are the mediums in which I work. However, specifically for this studio tour, I will be showing primarily small metal contemporary jewelry work and small ceramic sculpture.

Everyday objects: a ladder, a chair, a cluster of electrical cords.  Those things that we see and use but hardly notice in our day to day lives?  That is what currently inspires my work. I find it interesting to take these everyday objects out of context, recreate them using a different material, color, and scale, and then put them in an unexpected space. For instance, a ladder leaning against the wall in the garage may seem very ordinary, blending in with the surroundings, but if someone is wearing an orange pair of tiny ladder earrings we give it a second look! A change of perspective may often cause us to consider the mundane.
