Metal and Ceramic Sculpture & Jewelry

SUSAN MOLLET
Clay, metals, and mixed media are the mediums in which I work. However, specifically for this studio tour, I will be showing primarily small metal contemporary jewelry work and small ceramic sculpture.
Everyday objects: a ladder, a chair, a garden shovel. These are things that we see and use but hardly pay attention to in our day to day lives. That is what currently inspires my work. I find it interesting to take these everyday objects out of context, recreate them using a different material, color, and scale, and then put them in an unexpected space. For instance, a ladder leaning against the wall in the garage may seem very ordinary, blending in with the surroundings, but if someone is wearing a yellow pair of tiny ladder earrings we give it a second look. A change of perspective will often cause us to consider the mundane.
